# Tasks

Tasks belong to the organization. Each task has a number (`#57`), a title, a status, a person it is assigned to, and optional notes and a due date. People work on tasks in the app. Agents and programs read and write them through the Gateway.

## Status

| Status | Meaning |
| ------------- | ------------------------------ |
| `todo` | Not started. |
| `in_progress` | Someone is working on it. |
| `stuck` | It needs a person's attention. |
| `done` | Completed. |
| `canceled` | No longer needed. |

## What a key can do

| To do this | Use | Needs |
| --------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------- | --------------------------------- |
| List the open tasks | `list_tasks` | Access to tasks |
| List done and canceled tasks too | `list_tasks` with `includeDone` | Access to tasks |
| Create a task | `create_task` | Access to tasks, and write access |
| Change status, title or due date, or reassign | `update_task` | Access to tasks, and write access |

A task that a key creates is assigned to the person who connected the key. To give a task to another member, `update_task` takes `assigneeName`: the member's name as `list_tasks` shows it.

`update_task` takes the task's ID from `list_tasks`. It does not take the task's number.

> **Note**
>
> Some connected services create tasks too. For example, when an agent schedules a reply in MultiDados, Basement creates a task for the member, so the scheduled reply is on the board.
