# Use it with Claude

When a SAP connection is ready in the app, the AI that you connect to the Gateway can read that system. See [Connect a SAP system](/sap/connect). The sign-in is the same as in the app: your e-mail and the code. On the approval screen, select the **organization** of the SAP connection and an **access level** that reads SAP (for example **Analyst**, which reads every connected service).

A SAP connection belongs to one person in one organization. Approve Claude in the organization where your SAP is connected.

#### Claude (web and desktop)

1. Open **Settings › Connectors**. Add a connector with the address `https://mcp.basement.chat/mcp`.
2. Sign in with your e-mail and the code that arrives by e-mail.
3. On the approval screen, select the organization of the SAP connection and the access level with SAP. Give the connection a name. Click **Approve**.
4. In a conversation, enable the connector. Ask your question.

#### Claude Code

Claude Code signs in with a key. Create the key in **Agents › Connect agent** (**AI agent**), with an access level that reads SAP, for example **Analyst**. Click **Create key** and copy the key. In the terminal:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http basement https://mcp.basement.chat/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer bsmt_your_key"
```

#### ChatGPT

Open **Settings › Connectors**. Add an MCP connector with the address `https://mcp.basement.chat/mcp`. Sign in and approve in the same way.

## What the AI can do

All tools are read-only. They read the system that you connected:

| Group           | Tools                                                                                                                            | Example questions                                         |
| --------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Code** | Search objects. Read source code. Find where an object is used. List the Z/Y objects of the customer. Show how a program starts. | "Show the code of `Z_CALC_FRETE` and where it is called." |
| **Data** | Read tables (maximum 200 rows, with a filter). | "Which plants exist in T001W?" |
| **Dictionary** | Show the definition of a table, structure, view, data element or domain. | "What are the key fields of MARA?" |
| **Diagnostics** | List dumps (ST22). Explain one dump. List jobs (SM37). Read the system log (SM21). | "Which dumps occurred today, and why?" |
| **System** | Show system information. Show the state of the connection for each method. | "Which release is this system?" |
| **Transports** | List requests (SE09). Show the contents of a request. | "What is in request SBXK900002?" |

The full list, with what each tool reads, is on the [Tools](/mcp/tools) page.

## What the AI cannot do

The AI cannot create, change, activate, run or delete data in SAP. There is no write tool. The Gateway refuses such requests. The Gateway never reads tables with passwords, keys or personal data.

## If the AI says that the access level does not include SAP

The level of the connection does not read SAP (for example **Researcher** or **Operator**), or the connection was made before October 5, 2026 and has no level. Open the connection in **Agents › Connected**, select a level that reads SAP (for example **Analyst**) and reconnect the assistant. Or remove the connector, connect again and approve with that level.

## If the AI says that SAP is not available

The messages are the same as in the app, with what to do: the computer of the analyst is offline, the VPN is disconnected, or SAP refused the logon. See [When it does not connect](/sap/troubleshooting).

If SAP is not connected for you, the AI tells you to open the app, turn the VPN on and connect the system. If you have more than one SAP system connected, tell the AI which system: it selects the connection by name. The **activity log** of the organization keeps the tool, the system and the result of each call. It never keeps the data that was read.
